“When the mind is still, tranquil, not seeking any answer or any solution, neither resisting nor avoiding – it is only then that there can be a regeneration, because then the mind is capable of perceiving what is true; and it is truth that liberates, not your effort to be free.” – Krishnamurti …a photo […]
During my recent visit to Puerto Rico a hurricane and resulting flash flood almost fully submerged my SUV. REALLY! The water came up to the window sill. But beside those two hours of sheer terror, I had a great time
My buddy Anthony Giordano is an accomplished television producer and an even better friend. Recently he invited me down to spend some time at his rental property in Nicaragua. In addition to some of the greatest surf beaches in the world, I think these photographs give a glimpse of this beautiful country and it’s people.
A day in South Beach (Miami, FL)…
So I was recently asked on Facebook,
“(I really like your photography) but one thing I have always wondered? How do you make a living at this? …are they friends and relatives? I am only asking, because they seem so comfortable in front of the camera.”
As much as things change they seem to stay the same in the seaside town of Capitola and at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Image from last weekend’s photowalk with my Fujifilm X100S.
WALNUT CREEK PHOTOWALK: I can not UNSEE. I can not pretend to not see. So when I walk affluent areas my mind fills with the continuous thought of, “We have so much.”
Why I finally ordered my Fujifilm x100s this morning.
So I am in Trader Joes and every avocado is hard as a rock. I need 15 to make the guacamole for an afternoon pool party and I have yet to find a single one that is even close to being ripe. I let out a frustration sigh and a woman also searching says, “Guacamole? You could always use the pre-made”. To which I responded, “Never!” and continued hunting.
Pocket-Sized Solution Olloclip, the company that brought you the 3-in-1 iPhone lens attachment (macro, panoramic and fisheye), introduced its first telephoto lens for the iPhone 5 (as well as the 4 and 4S). The $99.99 clip-on also adds a polarizing lens (more on that later). Zoom attachments for the iPhone are not a new development, […]
My team is working on sorting and organizing the hundreds of images we took at the 2013 Spectrum Fitness NPC Governor’s Cup event in Sacramento, CA. For those who have pre-ordered, the link to the images will be posted here in less than 10 days and forwarded to you via email. For those looking to order images […]
I am a huge fan of #vanityfair. The writing and visuals are some of the best in the industry. However this month’s trite fashion ads, ho hum editorial photos and Swift editorial were underwhelming…
During my interview for an article on beauty lighting in next month’s issue of Popular Photography, the editor asked me for tips on positioning and equipment. I gave him an array of suggestions but the most important thing I told him was the relationship between the subject and I.
I first met Lauren when I booked her for a hair shoot. As she was leaving she asked me if I could help her create additional photos for her portfolio. Here is video and stills of what we came up with over the course of 4 months.
As stated in an earlier post, for this session we shot in the salon as we had 4 hair stylist and models and wanted to give the artists access to all their tools. Also I did not want to shuttle the subjects back and forth from location to salon. I used a simple three light […]
It has been a while since I have photographed Elizabeth Cruz for a series of bikini images that were VERY well received. After texting back and forth the night before we decided to get together and shoot despite the weather. Weather? Well I am a location shooter and the overnight frost warning did not bode […]
For this session we shot in the salon as we had 4 hair stylist and models and wanted to give the artists access to all their tools. Also I did not want to shuttle the subjects back and forth from location to salon. I used a simple three light setup of Profoto Acutes on the […]
My hair stylist wanted to do a quick shoot with her daughter this morning. I didn’t want to overwhelm Kie Kie with studio light and such, so I used natural light. I think it was a great first effort from a young woman who is more comfortable behind her video camera I get request […]

Inspired by the work of Joel Grimes and my friend Patricia’s iconic photo this is my interpretation of the female shoulder pad football image. My work has been described as sensual and intimate, this image I believe has both. The original photo of Alyssa was shot on Adorama Seamless Background Paper suspended from a Manfrotto […]
I am a big believer that the best way to get better as a photographer is to simply shoot more. And so I am constantly looking for models that will allow me to use them as muses where we can simply experiment and try different concepts. Kristina Love contacted me during the week and wanted to […]
It has been a while since Christine and I have shot together. I decided to change that. In looking at her Facebook page I saw she had a Hello Kitty fetish and a theme was born. While we were shooting, we came across an old boat sitting in a yard. I had her quickly jump […]
On my first full day in Paris I grabbed my 85mm f1.2 and 17-24mm f2.8 and took the open top bus tour. It’s a great way to scope out a big city in a hurry for future shoot days. Europe Day 2 – Paris Tour from David 'Art' Wooten on Vimeo.
